A new machine!

We just got our new lave-linge delivered. It's the European brand of Hotpoint, Indesit. It's pretty simple and wasn't expensive. But we've got a 5-year guarantee on it, so we should be worry-free for awhile.

Monsieur Titi went to the store where we bought the sick and dying machine to see if we could get a deal on a new one. The salesperson offered a 5% discount on a machine. But with the price plus the guarantee, it was 650€! Way too much. The new machine cost 428€ with the guarantee.

Monsieur Titi told the person that they were not very commercial and that they'd just lost a customer. It's rare when he gets stubborn like that, but I can assure you, he'll never go back into that store.

The first cycle is busy turning. I've got tons of laundry to catch up on.

I've often wondered how some of these shops survive...and more so when they are family concerns when it's not just an employee who is serving you.

Hurrah for the washer! That will make Christmas ever so much more enjoyable, not having to wash things out in the sink.

Pleased to hear you are back in business again and that sounds like a good price to me. Diane

How exciting is that? You never appreciated a machine so much! Ah, how we rely on them!

I don't know where you do business, but we've stopped going to Darty because we've found better deals "ailleurs".

Glad you have a new washing machine. I'm astounded at the laxness of business employees. I thought it was only in South Africa that people were so blase about custom. Glad you got a bargain and a 5 year guarantee. Have a great weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo

C'est mervilleux! Wonderful, even.

Once again you can "clean up your act" (so to speak) without leaving home! So much more convenient than having to lug everything to a laundromat. (Ugh!)

Hope the new equipment lasts much longer than five years.

And heaven and nature sing!! Congratulations! So glad you all were able to find a place that was reasonable! Enjoy having many clean clothes!

I'm glad you don't still have to do your laundry by hand :)

I've noticed that the washing machines I've encountered in France and London were very hard to figure out, and seem to have a super long cycle. Is that the case? It seems like we had to try to manually move one of them through some cycles, or it would have taken about 90 minutes! Do you think that I was getting something wrong?? We had some big laughs (and a few choice words) about it :)

Simo, toi aussi.

Fly, I know! I can't imagine how small shops compete.

Crazy, Yes, I'm already making good use of it.

FF in Charente, it was a good price. It will last us at least 5 years.

Lakeviewer, I'd like to be able to forget that I can wash things by hand.

Meredith, this was an "internet special" so not to be found at the stores. I do trust Darty for their service.

Claude, normalement je serais d'accord. Mais après d'avoir depensé cher sur la dernière, nous avons opté pour une pas chere.

Judy, A normal cycle takes around 1-1/2 hour which is par for European machines. But there is an "Eco" setting which cuts the time in half. That's what I use most of the time.

You are SO lucky! I am waiting for my new machine to arrive and the washing mountain is now of Everest proportions. And if my favourite children come for Christmas you will actually be able to see our dirty washing from Space!

I read your post on brownies and the fact that you invited someone you did not know. It is true what Titi says, French people don’t open their doors that easily. You know, that is something of the culture I have kept. But at the same time I saw in an article on some of the differences between the French and people in the US and one is that people here say “let’s get together soon’ but they don’t mean it. However, when I was in Marseille last year we ate in a Moroccan couscous place and the guy next to me told me to try what he was having and gave me a piece of his dish… they would not do that here.
I love Christmas cards, sending and receiving them. Unfortunately my family is so small that I don’t send many anymore, just to a few friends. I may receive 5 or 6. I wish all my blogging friends had their addresses on their blogs and I would send them one. I can’t believe how much snow France has received. I don’t remember many snowy days in my childhood in Paris.

Found you through Martine.
I don't know if I am boring or not but I love that you bought a new washing machine. I am head over heals in love with my machine since I have 6 to wash for.
Congratulations on your new addition.
