%#&@#§€ !!!!! Washing Machine

My washing machine (or Lave-linge in French) died this past weekend and I'm not sure when we'll get a new one (or get this one fixed). It's only 3 years old and it's already been repaired once, just last year. We had the repairperson out from the store where we bought it, and he said it was indeed, dead. He took it with him to give us an estimate. But I figure that if the repairs are over 200€, it's better to buy a new one.

One of the main things we did wrong was to NOT get the 5-year guarantee. With this cold weather, washing undies out by hand isn't too much fun. Not being able to have clean towels is also pretty gross.

Rotten machine! I hate you!

I don't know what I'd do. I seriously don't know what I'd do if our washing machine broke. Before I moved to France, my husband bought me a dryer and I thank my lucky stars. Seriously. I hate your machine too!

Oh no. You're the second person I know with this problem. They don't make the machines very well anymore!

I was just on my way up through the reader when you were on my blog. (I'm actually quite the cook, by the way ... normally ;0). I'm feeling you on the laundry thing. I wandered around town for an hour in the rain hugging my bursting bag of travel-nasties thinking - I'm cold, this sucks, there's no more circulation in my hands, I'm just going to huck it back to the hooch and dump everything into the tub with some shampoo. Then I found a laverie behind the fish market. Long story way-shortened - but good times, I know.

The malevolence of inanimate objects!

But I loved the poster....I'm going to suggest this to Mr. Fly...

Valerie, I'm sure you are a good cook. I was just kidding!

Samantha, I'm not sure what I'm going to do either!

oH, SO terrible to lose a machine. Yes, too expensive to repair.

In this weather that is no joke, it seems that there are several machines going wrong. Ours is just out of warranty so it is time that I start worrying!!!!!!! I hate your machine as well. Diane

ooh. I feel for you. When we bought our apartment, the previous owner left her old washing machine. It worked, but the spin cycle was a joke. Would have to wring clothes out in the sink before hanging them on the line, and then it would take about three days for them to dry. I was so pleased to buy our washer/dryer combo. Except that it vibrates like crazy and lately the dryer function doesn't seem to be working. Sigh. Just too much to handle right now.

Hee hee!! That poster cracks me up. Reminds me of Hypnotoad off of Futurama (if you don't know, don't ask lol).

Good luck with getting things sorted out! That seriously, seriously stinks to high heaven. I wouldn't just hate that machine, I would use it as an instrument for anger management. Can we say sledgehammer? ;-)

Oh, heavens! Sorry to hear that, especially in this cold weather.

Now... all these years, I've been teaching my students the term, machine à laver... is that not common, or is it just another term?

Bonjour Dedene !
Bises.

Seine Judeet, Judy, Both terms are correct. But these days, I see "lave-linge" in ads more often. Maybe it sounds more modern to the French customer?

Claude, je te remercie. Je crois aussi que 3 ans est bien court pour une machine. Monsieur Titi va se plaindre au magasin où nous l'avons achetée.

Thanks all for your compassion. We're going to go and complain to the store to see if they'll give us a discount on a new one. I think a machine that's only 3 years old and already been fixed once isn't normal.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy more clothes ;) I hope you get it fixed soon!

Oh, dear! Pauvre Dedene! You have my absolute sympathy. A dysfunctional washing machine is no fun at all. I hope you can get the mater settled promptly.

Sadly, your not alone. "Em" over at Blog Sin Jamon has been going through a similar situation. Misery loves company?

Seems like you got a "lemon".
Just buy a new one. I did last year when mine died. There are things you just can't do without.
Thank you for clearing the word "lave-linge". Like Judith, I was used to "machine a laver".

typical, no ? Our previous lave-linge was hubby's ; it survived his first wife and girfriend ; finally died when we were already 3 years married. So I guess it was pretty old but something that also had become a part of hubby's family!
I'm very curious to see how long this brand new 1 will live...
Hope you get a new or repared 1 pretty soon, no fun in not being able to the mundane stuff

Sounds like you got a lemon of a washing machine. That is a major inconvenience. It is hard to do without!!!

And I'm loving your winter header!

Good luck ! How far away is the nearest laundromat ???

Not that going to the laundromat in this weather is much fun either...

Planned obsolescence, cheap mass produced goods... that's life today.

oh no! Quelle horreur... That's awful. I hope you find a solution soon, it's no fun having to hand wash everything (I have already been through this).
