Yesterday, we had our first real lunch outside under our ornamental cherry tree. Our friend, Renauld, was here. We all were enchanted by such a beautiful day. And we had a very nice lunch, too.
This "déjeuner sur l'herbe" was not like the famous painting. I was not naked and the guys were not in suits.
The original painting by Claude Manet.
Today, I went running alone. Mag called and said her knee was hurting her and that she wanted to let it rest. I was bummed, but Monsieur Titi convinced me to go by myself. I did 6+ kilometers (about 4 miles) in 1 hour. I took it nice and slow and it was good.
And, I want to show you our mailbox. It's pretty ordinary from the front. All mailboxes in France are of a standard size whether they built-in or free standing.
Here's the back with the lock on it. So ?????
Surprise! The birds build their nest here so fast, we can't keep it cleaned out. There aren't any eggs yet, so I hope the birds get used to having mail dropped on them.
Now, because I love our garden right now and I can't get enough of our ornamental cherry trees, here are some more pictures for your to enjoy. The cherry blossoms don't last very long, they've already been out for a week. I'm sure by this weekend, they'll be all gone.

Your garden looks gorgeous! If I had a garden like that I would be thrilled too. I would probably be eating out there every day of spring, summer and fall (weather permitting, of course) :)
Thanks, my dear, that's sweet of you. Yes, I feel we are very lucky. Monsieur Titi has put in a lot of work.
Lovely photos. Cherry blossom is so pretty. Taking lunch when naked is not that comfortable anyway.....!!
I love the idea of birds nesting in your mailbox !!
I've been trying to visit you since last week, Dedene and couldn't get into your blog. Glad I made it today, and what a SUPERB setting for your al fresco meal. It looks better than the painting, Your cherry blossoms are awesome. We have one at home too (flowers in the South African spring in September) and they also go off quickly. Oh I LOVE the idea of your letter box nestlings. What small birds can fit through that slot? I'm also SO proud of you for going out for a run. Well done And to M Titi on that AWESOME garden. Sigh. You have a paradise there. Greetings from Jo
Jean, Hi! Yes, I can imagine all the bugs crawling up one's butt while sitting on the grass naked.
Jo, how strange you couldn't get connected. Oh well, all's well now.
Thanks for your visit.
Lovely garden...it makes the work worthwhile when you get results like that.
We never had birds in our letter box....just plenty of snails!
Your trees are so lovely.
I always wondered about the painting. Was she just a really bad strip poker player?
Thanks for sharing printemps with us!
Everytime I see pics of your garden, I say you must be very lucky. It's so beautifully landscaped.
As far as Manet's painting, the naked lady has the face of his favourite model and the body of his wife. The two dandies : his brother and brother-in-law.
Later on, Claude Monet did one on the same subject but the ladies are fully clothed and the man portrayed in black is Gustave Courbet
Both paintings can be viewed @ Musée Orsay
Bliss! Makes me yearn to get back to France this summer ...
What an amazing — um, well, "place" isn't the right word.
What an amazing manor you have! Looks like it covers several acres, at least. What a wonderful place.
Narrima, thanks for the explanation of Manet's intentions. I've seen the painting at the Musée d'Orsay and it's quite impressive.
Rob-Bear, thanks dear, but it's just a house.
Jean, Glad to see you around. Hope all is well at your house.
The Broad, well come on over anytime!
Fly, how are you? How's Costa Rica?
The new blog layout, the beautiful pictures of your gorgeous home- feels so much like spring! Love it!!
Your cherry trees are beautiful and lunch looked wonderful too. What a perfect day -
Bises !
Did you create this post just to make me jealous? Because I am.
Your Friend, m.
I like your new background. And I am surprised the birds can get in the mailbox!
Simply gorgeous! Looks like your weather is very beautiful.
Your yard looks so nice!
Your blog looks like Spring all the way down!
I loved the transistion with "déjeuner sur l"herbe". Very good!
We have a park called "parc de Sceaux", that has these same ornamental cherry trees. They were blooming like mad last week.
Enjoy your sunny days & congrats for the solo run.
Habebi, I'm glad you like the new layout. It's kind of gaudy, but it fit the mood I was in.
Annette, thanks!
Mark M., I didn't want to make you jealous, just to make you want to visit France.
Claude, merci! Que c'est mignon cette histoire d'adresse et de rencontre.
Megan, They must be very little birds. Maybe some kind of sparrow?
Laurie, thanks! Your yard is even prettier, it just comes a little later.
Barbara, I know the Parc de Sceaux a little. These cherries are really something.
We have not got a letter box just a slit in the front door! Thankfully the birds have not tried making their way into there (yet).
Your garden is looking beautiful, it so sad the blossom lasts for such a short time but I guess we must appreciate it while it is there. Lovely photos. Diane
Super chouette la nouvelle présentation de ton blog et la bannière en jette !
bises.
